As long as it’s Emerald Green
Geologists traditionally use fountain pens and/or Rapidographs in the field. I have used fountain pens for over 30 years. During that time, I have cast about to find the best pen for daily use. The most expensive pen is not always the best pen. The Kaweco Sport is a great example of this.
First of all, the Kaweco is inexpensive enough to use with out worry. If you leave your $400 Rotring 600 in store or someones office... youre not likely to get it back. With a Kaweco - it’s not a worry. A common problem with fountain pens is that the cap comes off and the ink empties into your pocket. The Kaweco has a cap that screws on. This is a huge advantage. Moreover, the cap and pen form a wonderfully small package. You can carry it in the front pocket of your blue jeans with no problem. It has an octagonal cross section that prevents it from rolling away - this is really helpful for those of us who work outside where level surfaces are the exception.
The pen comes with a standard size cartridge, however Kaweco also sells a “Mini Converter” (a piston in a cylinder that lets you use bottled ink) that is inexpensive. Part of the fun of using a fountain pen is keeping a variety of liquid inks on hand to suit the mood or message you want to convey with your writing.
For what its worth, I highly recommend these practical and well designed pens.
