“There must be quite a few things a hot bath won’t cure, but I can’t think of many.”

-Sylvia Plath

I love baths. The ritual of it, the pause in time just for me, and the way I feel afterwards. Since showers exist, baths are completely unnecessary and totally indulgent; and that’s exactly why you should take them. I know my mom took baths when I was little as an escape away from me, and now I take that as an escape too. I’ve never mastered meditating, so baths will have to do.

If you’re going to take the time to fill up your tub and escape, you had better go all in. I get all the senses involved.

Sight: I have tidy up the bathroom before starting. There’s nothing relaxing about looking at a pile of clothes and this mornings toothpaste splatters.

Taste: I’ve been known to snack in the tub, but I at least always have a drink in there!

Hear: This is the perfect time to catch up on that podcast or audiobook!

Smell: Candles are must. I chose the Amber and Smoke Apothecary candle from Paddywax to add warmth and depth to my ritual. I was a chilly fall day where I live so this fit the vibe so perfectly!

Touch: The Coconut Milk bath bomb by the Old Whaling Company had me feeling like Cleopatra! The olive oil in it was super hydrating and made my skin silky smooth! This would be so perfect for the winter when your skin is so dry it’s itchy.

One of my favorite things to do at the end of my baths is imagine the water drawing out all the stress and anxiety from my body, then I pull the plug and watch my worries swirl down the drain and out of my house!
